Tidbits About Me

Sunday, March 31, 2013

This sign was made for me; I just personalized it a bit more.

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I carry a small note pad in the car (along with a back scratcher in my door pocket) so I can write down thoughts that occur to me for th' blog. That worked, but then Love Bunny thought an audio recorder would work better. I bought one thinking that for once in our marriage he might be right and that it would help me more than trying to write while driving. And it did...for a while.

Then the battery went out and I was too busy to replace it so put it away for a while until I remembered to replace it. Then once again, I forgot it for a little while. Sigh. I always promise myself I'll remember what I wanted to write down. I rarely, if ever, do! I now have the audio recorder working and am using it again. I hate not remembering things I want to blog about!

Since I've been posting tidbits recently from a book I've read, I thought I'd post a few tidbits about me.

I am attracted to anything pink, architectural details, vintage gates that remind me of my childhood, vibrant colors, soft colors, gorgeous sofas, beautiful chairs, chocolate, pretty papers, froufrou images, chandeliers, flowers of any kind and any, and I mean ANY eye candy . Not necessarily in that order.

I love big hair on women and big photos on blogs. I have very fluffy/big hair and my great granddaughter does too.

I went wild this past New Year's Eve by buying corn chips. Yep, I'm soooo exciting! Sigh...

I've had a lifelong dependency on suspicion. True!

I do have a soft heart and am a bit of a sentimentalist, just a tiny bit.

I once did something I'll never, ever admit to. ;-) Nope, it wasn't immoral or illegal.

I am a very uplifting person and try to leave everyone feeling that way. True!

I leave toast crumbs in the butter and am not the least bit embarrassed by it. Butter should have toast crumbs in it.

I once wrote to a very famous interior designer and she wrote me back. I was thrilled. That's not the norm. She was a gracious lady.

I get up in the morning and immediately put on my clothes for the day. I don't change until we go to bed at night. (Hubs changes at least 3 times a day.)

I am an excellent speller and rarely get a word wrong.

I can't eat spicy/hot food, no way. Someone will tell me, "It's not too spicy" and invariably it's too spicy. So I trust no one anymore. I also don't like hot food; I prefer it at room temperature.

I'll never be a politically correct person. I say Merry Christmas and we'll fly the American flag until we die.

I'm a very opinionated woman and that will never change.

I love music from the 60s, 70s and 80s and also love the Big Band songs from the 40s. Also, classical guitar is one of my favorite things to listen to. I love the cello and bass music and most classical music. I absolutely hate rap music and I use the term music loosely in describing it. My granddaughter likes french rap music however.

I made my great granddaughter a music CD with oldies on it and she loves it but her favorite song is Lollipop and sings it at her daycare for them.

Similar to my new quilted bedspread but mine has 11 ruffles on it.

More pretty bottles, one of my favorite things.

Lovely patio, just lovely!

I really like this house with the pretty tables and stone floor. No cleaning carpets!

Antlers and roses? Sure makes a cute table setting though.

Pretty homes on a street in Italy.

Yes, this is actually a cake. I can't even imagine the time and expertise, let alone the price, of such a creation.

Linens covered with roses.

Pretty hat boxes.

Lovely pearls gracing a hanger.

Beautiful pink chrysanthemums.

A kitchen we'd all love to have. Large farmhouse table with a gorgeous chandelier.

I'm not fond of mirrors but this one is gorgeous.

Pretty vintage tin boxes.

Gorgeous pink fabric. I wish I had it to make pillows.

Hubs and His Vegetable Garden

Monday, November 5, 2012

My hubs was the best catch of the day when we met 51+ years ago. It's been quite a journey for us, probably more trying for him than me. Hah! He would never say that but it gets a bit crazy living with a compulsive person. Me, not him. He's quite easy going. I like everything organized just so in my house. He doesn't care what I do except I'd better not touch his train room. I rarely ever go out there.

But his garden is his pride and joy, both the flowers and the vegetables. He can grow tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers like crazy and therein lies the tale.

I don't can anymore. I hate it. It's too hard and time consuming and isn't worth it for two people. I can buy it cheaper at the stores without all the work. I got rid of my canners and jars about 5 years ago and haven't looked back. I did keep my dryer because we like to keep our granddaughter and great granddaughter in dried fruit. Plus it's not hard to do it.

But we can't eat the tomatoes and cukes fast enough around here. They just keep multiplying like crazy. I'll make a cuke and tomato salad, or just slice them and put them on a plate to eat. Or he'll make tomato sandwiches or we'll have them in a salad. OR we'll give bags of them to the neighbors. I'm sick of cucumbers and tomatoes. But he'll bring in a bag full and put them in the fridge. They will "disappear" every day or two until they're gone. He doesn't even seem to notice, which is good. I'll just leave them on the counter for a day or two, then put them in the fridge for a day or two while taking several out and throwing them in the garbage. It's gotten so no one wants any more vegetables from us! But the truly funny thing is that he doesn't notice at all. ;-) I think I have some rotting in there as I'm typing this post. They'll be gone tomorrow! ;-)

I think this is a very pretty room. Nicely arranged and pretty colors.

While this is a lovely room, that side table is what caught my eye before that gorgeous bay window. Lovely and elegant while romantic and liveable.

Another bedspread from the same place I bought my ruffled quilt. It's gorgeous also.

Just some pretty embroidered pillows and a decorated box.

This wallpaper reminds me of the 1990s and the plates on the wall also but still gorgeous.

I'm sure this is something Rachel Ashwell came up with but isn't it adorable and wouldn't it be fun to have in a bedroom?

Some happy hats to make you smile. :-)

A bold color on an old French building. Love the color!

What an outdoor room! Frankly, I don't see how people keep white so clean though. In our desert, they'd look filthy all the time. Winds blowing the sand and dirt from nearby farm fields would destroy them within a couple of years at the most.

Truly eye candy. ;-) Gorgeous.

Another beautiful bottle.

A sweet card.

An adorable kitchen but I love the bright red touches. Could that be red chalk paint?

This wouldn't have to be for a wedding but could be for a fancy luncheon for friends.

Aaaaahhh, the luxury of windows to the world such as these. Beautiful.

Rambling 9/19/12

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

I am an open person with a lot of things but I absolutely want privacy in my home. I lived in a fish bowl of a house for several years when we first moved to Idaho. It was big and had huge windows. I think we had about 35 huge windows in that house. When we bought it, it had no shades but heavy beige draperies, and we all know how I hate beige. ;-) They were the first to go. The man we bought the house from came by one day and was aghast that we had taken down about $6,000 worth of draperies. Shrug! It was my house then so I didn't care what he said. But we had to put up blinds on the west side because it got so hot and bright in the living room. Everyone could see in so there was no privacy and eventually I put up lace to give us some privacy at least. Since it was a famous house in the town we'd have people just drive by looking at it. Truly, to us, it wasn't anything special, but it eventually wore on us with the gawkers.

Anyway, that set the tone for this house. I have wood blinds on every room in this house. There are only 9 windows in this house. I love that! I don't have much to clean and less to spend on blinds. I also have lace so no one can see in when the blinds are open. Call me nuts if you want but if you've never lived in a fish bowl you'd never understand.

Did you know that Spain will not let you send any foods at all that to that country that contain saccharine? Interesting the postal regulations for other countries.

In Poland you cannot ship articles, printed matter, written documents or other articles contrary to interests of Poland. Where's their free speech then?

Do you try and quiet your mind when it gets loud and bothersome? Go soak or read a book. It's what I do.

And remember this post about the Secret Service in the White House? And there will be more little tidbits through the next several months as I deem them appropriate. But here's a tidbit for you. Once the SS heard about one vice-president who was ordering bottled water—and I believe it was a company he or a friend had an interest in. It was quite an expense so they took some of the water from the VP's residence—Blair House—and some of the bottled water to have it tested. It came back that the tap water in the VP's residence had less bacteria in it than the bottled water! They stopped the delivery of the bottled water immediately.

I keep seeing these tiny cottages but this one has a patio. Cute beyond words.

It's that time of year again where we'll be making and eating these. Actually, those look like apple tree branches the cook has put them on. Cute idea.

If it's pink, I'd take it. This is no exception!

Simple, elegant and darling card.

Eye candy easily made also.

Vintage basket to hold linens.

Cute idea for an outdoors party.

Some french laundry tubs.

A regal bedroom in a gorgeous blue. Look at that spread!

I have never seen such a gorgeous bed ensemble. You have got to wonder how they made that.

Water drops on a beautiful pink flower.

Waterfall for a secluded rest with your sweetheart.

You have no idea how I would love those 2 pink velvet chairs.

Sweet vignette with lace and flowers.

Some goodie cake...and in pink too!
