A Few Thoughts and My Heroes 11/11/13

Sunday, November 10, 2013

Okay, another reminder of my Pinterest page, where there are over 12,500 images, beautiful images, and over 9,800 followers viewing them. I have nothing to gain on telling you this, just your pleasure at seeing all the photos I've collected in one spot for you to see. I promise you will not be disappointed. Plus I'll never be able to post them all on my blog, just too many. So go over there and enjoy all the eye candy you could possibly want to see.
*

We went out to dinner a few nights ago, planning on joining another couple but they never showed up. We ate and then left, no problem. But the waitress was very chatty. She was also adorable and cute and hubby mentioned it to me before I said it to him. He then said, "But not as cute as you." Saved his backside BIG TIME! :-) But it got me thinking about how the waiters and waitresses chat us up all the time. Sure, it's very nice of them and they're probably told to be very friendly, but I truly don't need it. I'm just fine being with my hubby chatting away or with friends chatting. I don't need it. Not that I'm opposed to it but I have absolutely eaten in top notch restaurants and for the most part, wait people are to leave the diners alone. Be there but be unseen while taking care of the diner. I like that much better as hubby will tend to chat right back and keep it going. He can't shut up! He's just a gregarious guy and more so if it's a cute chick. Sigh.
*
One of the most profound things ever said to me, and it was my hubby that said it, was: Not everyone thinks like you do. I was rocked to the bottom of my core. Truly. I didn't know what to say it shocked me so badly. Of course I thought everyone thought like I did. Good was good and bad was bad; evil was bad, etc. I've since realized he was absolutely correct. Nothing brings it home like politics.
*
It's starting to get cool here in Idaho and they're forecasting possible snow in a few days. We'll see. I love this state. However, we know a man named Wrangler, one named Colt. Can you tell I live in Cowboy Country? :-) Love it here.
*
We're pretty humorous in this family and the other day I was putting on makeup and pulled all the stuff I needed from the cabinet to the countertop and told hubs this is what I needed to be beautiful. He picked it all up, put it back on the shelves and shook his head as he was brushing his teeth. The point being that I was beautiful without makeup. He's a killer, I tell ya. Won some brownie points but it isn't true no matter what he says. I proceeded to tell him he can't be treated to a gorgeous beauty everyday, that being the days I go makeup-free. ;-) Gotta love a man who can lie that well.
*
A few weeks ago, I sent hubby to WM to buy some shredded sharp cheese for tacos. He called me on his cell phone saying he was having a problem finding it. I walked him through it. Sigh. He's lost without me. ;-) Then he asked if I wanted one or two bags. I said to get one bag as I was hesitant on his "choices" of something.—he rarely gets it right. So he said he'd get three. I said no, just get one. He said he'd get one. He came home with two bags. Sigh. But how in the world did we exist before cell phones?
*
I haven't been blogging as much as I used to because I'm very focused on other things right now. I'll probably never blog like I once did but I try to do it at least once or twice a week. So keep watching and you'll see new posts. Promise.

This is one of our heroes returning and the story a man on the airplane wrote about it:

What you’re looking at is Delta Flight 2255 after it landed in LA earlier this week from Atlanta.
It was an ordinary flight in every way except one.
One board was the body of a fallen soldier in the cargo hold.
None of the passengers had any idea until the pilot made the announcement about 45 minutes before the plane landed.
“The plane went quiet as he explained that there was a military escort on-board and asked that everyone remain seated for a couple of minutes so the soldiers could get off first.”
“He also warned us not to be alarmed if we see fire trucks since Los Angeles greets their fallen military with a water canon salute.”
One of the passengers on board was a man who calls himself Johnny Jet: The Travel Insider. And all these quotes are from the blog that he wrote about what it was like being on the flight.
“A few minutes after touchdown, we did indeed have a water canon salute. The water glistening on the windowpanes looked like tears.”
After the plane pulled into the gate, a military officer came onto the plan and spoke to the passengers.
He said:
“It is a sworn oath to bring home, to the family, the fallen. Today you all did that, you are all escorts, escorts of the heart.”
He then thanked everyone and walked off the plane.
Can you imagine being on a plane and witnessing something as powerful and emotional as this?
“Everyone was silent and no one got up, not even that person from the back row who pretends he doesn’t [understand] English so he can be first off the plane. I’m sure most had meteor-sized lumps in their throats and tears in their eyes like I did.”
And it got even more emotional once the passengers finally did get off the plane.
“There was a large number of passengers, who are normally in a hurry to get home or make a connection, standing by the window to witness something truly moving.“
“To see the Honor Guard and family waiting patiently, while LAX baggage handlers and a military loadmaster removed the flag covered casket first from the cargo hold, was humbling to say the least.”
“ I’m not sure if it was the fallen soldier’s mother or wife who I watched slowly walk up to the coffin while a few other family members, wrapped in blankets, stood near with a dozen or so of the Honor Guards standing in salute.”
“As soon as I saw her reach out to put her hand on her baby’s casket, I walked away.”
“This ordinary flight became extraordinary and is one that I will never forget.”
“Thank you to all the military who protect our beautiful country and let us live the lives we are able to lead. Without you we would be nothing.”

I couldn’t have said it any better.

[I agree with that writer wholeheartedly!]

And one more video about our returning heroes. If this doesn't reduce you to tears, nothing will and there's no hope for ya! This makes everything look insignificant in comparison.

Truly I do love all-white rooms. And this one is gorgeous with its pop of pink. "POP"? Where did that word come from? I find myself using it much more than I ever did and am finding it a bit trite. And I love this room with its ruffles and roses. But I need color and my favorite color is pink. I can't imagine not having colors I love all around me.

A cheery little kitchen and dining area. Very, very cute!

If only I could have a porch or patio that wasn't so dusty, it might look a bit like this. Hey, an idea just struck me!!! Why not use a canvas drop cloth over some lawn furniture? That might work to keep the dust from our farmers' fields around here from covering the seats and I could pull it off and wash it quite often. I think I'll try that.

My great-granddaughter loves the books of Fancy Nancy. I just bought her one about FN's delectable cupcakes. Who can refuse cupcakes? If you had this in your hand right now, I'd probably mug ya and run! Dieting is never fun.

I love the Cath Kidston and Green Gate kitchen ware. Those 2 designers are the most fantastic I've ever seen for beautiful kitchen items.

I don't know where this bread box came from but it is the most darling one I've ever seen.

This would be a joy to have as a craft/sewing room. It would be just the right size for me.

More darling kitchen ware. Does anyone know what kind this is? I'd love to know. It's probably antique but I've never seen it and I'm pretty old!

Looks like a party going on here but I love the curtains especially. I have them hung on 2 entrances in my home. One on the living room going into the dining room and one on the arch going into our family room. I love them softening archways.

One of the most darling little girl's rooms I've ever seen. It's just stunning with that headboard.

I actually like this style of sofa a lot, especially with that fabric and pillow.

I also have a love of birdcages no matter how big or small.

Now this is camping or glamping as it's called now. I wouldn't mind camping so much if I had this to look at when out in the wilds of Idaho!

I also adore beautiful pink and roses china. This to me is stunning.

Who in the world wouldn't love a room like this with all that sun shining through all those wonderful windows?

On Order in Our Homes

Monday, July 29, 2013

For those of you who don't know or realize it, I have a Pinterest page with over 10,400 images. All "eye candy" you would love to see. I post often there. Go visit it. I don't really like tooting my own horn but I will here: In just 6 short months, there are over 6,600 followers there so you know the images are beautiful. Your choice. But if I were you, I wouldn't miss them. ;-)

As Alexandra Stoddard says: Everything in our surroundings speaks for us, and if we accept living with a vulgar design we must pay for it. Caring about aesthetics increases your sensitivity. The more we care about the small details, the more in tune to beauty we become, and the more we realize how seemingly insignificant items affect us. You discover that by taking care of every inch of your surroundings you let your eyes wander and not be caught short. We're free to open up to all there is in our surroundings. I get enormous pleasure and comfort from orderly, harmonious, attractive surroundings, and I feel unhappy and disturbed when things are out of place, out of scale or in bad taste. Let your eye be the judge. Train yourself to see things with caring perception. [This is me in a nutshell as I'm obsessive and compulsive about order.]

I've been buying sparkly lemonade in pretty bottles simply to have the bottles and the stoppers that come with them. I love pretty bottles to put in fizzy lemonade to drink out of stemmed glasses. We drink out of our stemware/crystal glasses a lot. It gives me a feeling of elegance that I love, plus hubby is the first one to grab the glasses so I know he likes the romantic, elegant feeling also. Men do have that side of them, ya know. ;-)

She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten.

Just a yummy room for a photo shoot but I'd have to paint those walls for sure!

Huge lovely old home .

Lots of plant elements here. Maybe it's a store but I sure do like the wall hangers and tables.

A dreamy bedroom that is very close to my own.

Wouldn't you just love this on your front porch?!

Bouquets of gorgeous pink roses and tulips.

There are times when I love the quaintness of old kitchens and this is one I definitely like.

Perfection.

Beautiful brick-paved walkway and a bench among garden flowers.

This looks like such a fun room!

Pretty cobbled street in a foreign country. Love how their hydrangeas are growing on the street.

I can't resist pretty table settings with lace and flowers.

A crafter's room? Lovely.

A store with a gorgeous headboard for sale.

This woman is definitely bold with her home. Lovin' the blue stripes and the candy colors of the room.

A Few Thoughts on Womanhood

Tuesday, June 25, 2013

My favorite instrument is the cello. I love to listen to Yo Yo Ma play. Here is a video of his music playing one of my favorite songs. He's one of the greatest musicians in the world. Enjoy while reading this post. If this doesn't touch your heart, there is no hope for you. ;-)

Many years ago I was a die-hard feminist. No more. I actually had an epiphany and that changed my whole life. I love and appreciate men. They are as necessary as women are. I'm just a woman who loves her husband more than anything. So I'd like to post a few things about womanhood for all of you because no one else can do womanhood or mothering like a mother can. Now, I don't want to hear about men. Yes, they are absolutely special also, but we women give birth to the child. No man can do that, only women. Neither can a woman take the place of a father in the home. Men are necessary for children. Women are necessary for children. Nothing replaces a mother or father in the home.

There is great nobility in Motherhood. God planted within women something divine.

The only way to get through this life is to laugh your way through it. You can either laugh or cry. I prefer to laugh. And I sure do a lot of laughing. Crying gives me wrinkles and destroys my mascara and makeup.

The Lord uses us because of our unique personalities and differences rather than in spite of them. He needs every one of us with our blemishes and weaknesses and imperfections. Trust me, I definitely have mine, more than I'd care to have.

As you create your home, don't get distracted with a lot of things that have no meaning for you or your family. Don't dwell on your failures, but think of your successes. Have joy in your children. Have joy in your husband. Have joy in yourself. Be grateful for your journey.

Stunning vintage cabinet. The way she decorate touches me as she has a very humble bench with a large dining table with glass on top. Some chairs are slipcovered and some aren't, just have pads on them. Everything topped off with a chandelier. Extraordinary!

I like old scroll work like this in a verdigris finish. To me it's one of the prettiest colors in the world.

A truly unique wall covering. I don't think I'd do it but she pulled it off rather well.

Who can resist pretty pink cookies in a flowered box, even if they are in a photograph?

Another French style dining room. Different chairs around the table and an old store scale for pizzazz.

I thought this was cute with the little soldiers hanging from the chandelier. Maybe it's for Christmas decorating but it would still look cute all year round.

Another cute room from one of our Swedish friends. I can tell from the flags.

Truly, for me, I'd rather have my cook top in a corner like this. That way you can work from both sides. I believe this is the ideal kitchen with the sink to the right but down a bit more from the stove. Our last house had it that way and it was perfect for me to cook.

Just a bit of whimsy for you today.

If this didn't start as a barn, you could have fooled me. It's just adorable, especially with all the vivid colors and that pool.

Greengate items. One of my favorite stores on the internet. They have the prettiest items for sale I've ever seen.

Maybe someone should coin the phrase rusticglam. (Hmmm, I think I just did!) This would be the lead photo. Very pretty.

By now, you should know I love clothes pin bags. I've made several unique froufrou-y ones for my laundry room to just hang in there along with decorated clothespins in them. Make your laundry room pretty!! You'll love being in there more.

We'd all love one of these tables in our kitchen or living room.

Simply beautiful tassels.

Tidbit:

London's smallest house is only 3.5 feet wide and forms part of the Tyburn Convent on Hyde Park Place, where 20 nuns live. These nuns have taken a vow of silence and still pray for the souls of those who lost their lives on the "Tyburn Tree," London's main execution spot until 1783, where about fifty thousand people were executed.

Green Salads vs. Jello Cool Whip Fruit Salads

Sunday, June 23, 2013

Since I've had so many "medical" things done to me lately with the skin cancer, surgery on hands for trigger fingers...sigh, endoscopy, where I never shut up talking when they pulled the tube out and I have no recollection of it to the delight of my hubby's warped sense of humor, etc., a friend sent me this. It's so funny I have to share it with you.

*

I love salads: green vegetable salads, chicken salad, ham salad, Italian pasta salad, macaroni salad with olives, celery, onion and mayonnaise. I'm a salad girl. We always had a salad in my parent's house. I grew up eating salads. Then I joined the LDS Church and salads changed.

When we would go to a friend's house or a ward dinner, salad would be what Love Bunny and I called dessert, usually consisting of Jello in some form or another and fruit and whipped cream or Cool Whip in it. To us that is dessert or a fruit dessert. Fruit salad for us was apples, oranges, maraschino cherries, pineapple and sugar and the cherry juice. When hubs is in charge of a ward dinner, he tells them green salad, not a dessert salad. They will inevitably not listen and will bring a sweet dessert salad. I'll bring the vegetable salad. I'll then eat their dessert salad after the main course. Now, truthfully, I love the salads some of our friends make but nothing is a salad without lettuce and tomatoes to us. Here is my regular salad if we're just having a salad for a dinner.

Lettuce
Tomatoes
Carrots
Cucumbers
Red bell pepper
Kidney Beans
Pineapple
Craisins
Red onion, not yellow, love the color!
Shredded cheese, preferably extra sharp, our favorite
Pecans for me and sunflower seeds for hubs
Poppy seed dressing for me and Fat Free Italian for him
Topped off with salt and freshly ground black Tellicherry pepper. I love pepper, but especially freshly ground, which we use around here a lot. I have to limit my pepper because of my kidney stones (too numerous to count, as the doc says). And pepper is not good for people with kidney stones.

It's delicious. I love pineapple. A lot! I might throw in strawberries if I have them but don't always and they don't come in cans like pineapple. These fruits are my favorites—watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, coconut, strawberries.

The woman who took this photo is a woman who understands my heart. It's perfect in my eyes.

A beautiful home in Europe. Yep, we all love these old stone homes that recall petite pleasures to our hearts.

A beautiful door with a gorgeous patina. This is one of my favorite colors. I love to see it on outside faucets or lead pipes.

An old forgotten wood box brought to its magnificence by a few pots of flowers.

A little french soap dish holding geegaws and buttons.

A pleasurable area to dine with friends.

A beautiful vintage pink enameled pitcher.

I found this pillow stunning! She probably had a "bad spot" in the petit point and did a creative fix to it. Gorgeous!

Another bedroom I find exceptionally appealing. That step-up area with a chair for reading is a plus. Just lovely.

One of the most colorful and delightful photos I've ever seen. I couldn't resist showing it to you.

This reminds me of Southern California and I have no idea why. Maybe it's the lusciousness of the garden or the way the golden sun filters through the trees of wisteria or maybe it's the smoginess of the sky. I love California.

I don't think I've ever seen such pretty pink frames all clustered together like this and I love it.

This homeowner has exceptional talent decorating like this. I find it lovely.

Now this is a true tree house! Isn't it cute?

For a tiny kitchen, I love this layout. Mine's small, but not as cute as this one.
