My Latest Creation

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Just so you all know, this post was composed over a week ago and might not make sense because Deb has gotten her prize now. I believe it's the one she would have chosen. Sorry if there is any confusion!
~*~

I've been wanting to create something just so very froufrou-y for a while and just have been lazy about it. But I have 2 valentine swaps and a 500th post giveaway and decided to make items just kinda over the top - in a classy way of course. ;-) Can I make ya laugh or what, chicks? So now..........

This will be the first of 3 things I'm doing. So someone has a choice to make today. My Dolly's Valentine Swap partner, Deb, has a decision to make. Are you reading this, Debbbbbbbb?!?!?! You can have this one or it can be one that you haven't seen yet. It's your decision to make. A sure thing.....or a sight-unseen thing? If you don't take this one it'll be the prize for the giveaway for my 500th post. I've told all you chicks about this so if you miss out by commenting on my blog when I post the giveaway prize don't come crying to me as that always interferes with my Feng Shui and I hate when that happens! Ratzzzzzzz ! ;-)

This little jewel is roses barkcloth on the front with a red valentine bead up at the peak of the roof (hidden under the white garland) and roses running along the roof line of the little birdhouse. A tissue paper garland is on the roof and rick rack goes around the bottom. A mulberry paper rose is set on the little perch and on top of the paper garland. I then added a double "skirt" of pink nylon tulle. So this is pretty much it except for a few very minor details also.

This is NOT the blog post to comment on for the 500th post giveaway. I'll let you know very clearly when that is posted. This post here is my 511th. But I'm so astounded that I've posted this many that I need to celebrate. Oooooh, and chocolate truffles will be accepted graciously! Thank you very MUCH!!! :-)

Back is a lovely roses fabric also. But one of the requirements for the valentine swap is that the item has to have hearts on it so this meets those requirements. I put more roses on it than anything though so it'll make a "statement" whatever time of year it is when placed in your home.

Side is a red and white check.

Even prettier in real life, chicks! Promise.........
Clicking to enlarge gives you a much better view also. ;-)

Sooooo it could be Deb's or it could be one of you who takes this home, my sweet cherubs. I'll post as soon as I hear from Deb..........

My 500th Post Giveaway!

Thursday, January 15, 2009

I've been busy, chicks. My craft room looks like a hurricane hit it after some rock star had a party in it! When I'm creating everything flies out the window but what I'm doing at that time. Trust me, it ain't purdy.

But I had to go to Boise today to buy some sheets for our new mattress. We've had it for about 2 months now and the bottom fitted sheet keeps coming off. Nuuuuuu, not what you're thinkin'! This is an NOT an R rated blog. But we've determined it's the new thicker mattress and the old sheets are not compatible. So I spent the morning looking for new sheets. Let me say here that trying to find just a single sheet is almost impossible any more. So I had to buy a "set" of queen size sheets. Actually, our top sheets are becoming frayed so it wasn't a big deal but just the thought of not having a choice riles me up. I'm now saddled with extra top sheets. And heaven forbid that anything as simple as WHITE should be available! I love just plain white sheets with a few colors thrown in. I also like good thread count and soft 100% pure cotton. But I found 5 sets that are really nice but only 2 sets are white. One is egyptian cotton which is the best I believe.

Anyway, while shopping for the sheets I found a chair. Now, I really don't need another chair but the metal folding chair I use in my sewing and craft room wasn't high enough for my vintage school desk for me to craft on. We're talking my "chest" hits the desktop and I feel like a kid sitting there. Lo and behold, I found this french blue wood and cane folding chair marked down from $100.00 to $22.00!! Never one to pass up a good bargain, into the cart it went. I also found 2 little plates that are adorable but I can't find them at the moment to photograph so they'll have to wait.
~*~

Now for the best part of what I was doing this afternoon and evening since Love Bunny had to go to a business meeting.

VoilĂ .......my latest creation. Roses, fabric, shimmery tinsel garland that looks like icicles draping over the edge of the little birdhouse and feather yarn around the bottom. My little chick is sitting on her little perch - all pink and wide eyed. This is the giveaway to celebrate my 500th post. All you have to do is leave a comment and a way to get in contact with you and this can be yours. I was going to keep it for a valentine swap but I've come up with another creation for that. I'll show you when she receives my swap. I think you'll like that item also. I'll draw a name on sunday and post it back here.

May Day Swaps

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

A decorating group I belong to decided to have a May Day swap. We all love roses and decorating our homes and there is much talent in this group of women! Anyway, my partner sent me the items picture below. She has truly out done herself! I was astounded opening the box!! So let's go look............

First of all this little box. Shirl covered it in a pink and white toile - just gorgeous! Then she added gimp, lace, roses, ribbon and pearls. Stunning.

Now you see the top of the box.

This is the inside of the box - more roses paper.

The "box" came in a big box and inside the BIG box was this: chocolate chip chunk cookies, white chocolate with flakes of coconut and teas.

Every chickadee needs tags, sheet music, darling little note papers, cards with velvet ribbon, lace and embroidered ribbon.

Then, oh my, look at the sachet of ribbon embroidery on its front, a bag of lavender and a pink shimmery bag.

Ephemera, vintage cards, lovely note paper, pretty prints to hang.

A scrap of lovely roses fabric.

Ribbons - blue ribbon, pink ribbon and pretty polka dot ribbon on a small spool, blue rick rack, pink ribbon with hearts, pink crepe paper and embroidery floss!

Two little vintage ballerinas and a tag with a porcelain rose on it. Oooooh my!!

A bouquet of little spring posies.

Little note cards and a darling little hang tag.

A teddy bear card, some lovely papers with women on them and some with cherubs and fairies on them.

Some more little note cards with blue and yellow and another cute hang tag with another porcelain rose. I'm sooooo impressed!

And then this little card of buttons......looking like little pink sparkly diamonds.

Okay, I'm off to finish off the cookies and white coconut chocolate. Trust me, it won't last long!! LOL

I am so honored to know this lady - Shirl. She is a sweetheart and more than generous with her talent. Thank you, my sweet friend!

Prom Dresses and Memories

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

I saw some blogs months ago that had prom dress swaps or something like that and it got me to thinking about some old pictures of my proms that I had yet to scan into my computer. Now mind you, I've been meaning to do this for years! But never one to jump right into things helter skelter......hah.........NOT SO!! I'm the "Miss Jump Into It and Get It Done"! Anyway, I've been scanning the old photos lately. I look at these and think how young Jack and I were. No, he's not in any of these pictures but we were soooo funny looking as we look back 50 years ago. I guess you could call us vintage also! So here are some pictures of me and .................. well, just read and you'll find out.

This is me at my senior prom. Yellow dress with lace, yellow gloves, yellow satin shoes dyed to match.

This is me with my friend and our dates. They were twins and very smart and am sure they are now internet gurus making scads of money! But they were very nice young men.

As you can see we didn't take many color pictures back then. Color film was just so expensive it was saved for rare occasions. But the dress was blue satin. And they boy was just a friend my mother made me dance with!! I'm sure you all have had similar experiences. He was nice but just not my type. He had a terrible crush on me but what can I say.

This picture reminds me of "little miss muffet" who sat on her tuffet. It was just frou frou-y and I loved it. This was my junior prom and my date was a dud but I had a good time and got a pretty gown out of it and get to share this really geeky photo with all of you. I've got to be really into embarrassing myself to show all these photos to y'all!!

This little dress is one I just bought. Nuuuuuuuu, it won't fit this old lady but the lady I bought it from was thinking of making it into old pillows and I just loved the look of it as it was so I decided I "needed" it. I'll probably just hang it in my bedroom along side of my wedding dress and dream of the young lady who must have worn it for something special.
