More Lights for the Patio

Thursday, May 21, 2009

Love Bunny is eating those olives as fast as he can to get me more jars so he doesn't have to climb up into the garage attic and search for the old canning jars. I can keep that man on his toes! Anyway, I finished three more with simply saving jars from food stuffs.

I've added tulle netting to one, ribbon to another and then one has lace from a vintage pillow case that I cut off. I've added paper roses and silk roses to each one. Now if I can just get hubs to add hangers around the top of the patio cover for me to hang these we're in business, chicks!

I saw a sign board at a church the other day that had this title for a class or sermon that was to be given: Success over fear. Now, I don't know about you but I don't WANT to get over my fear of snakes or airplanes. Why would I ever want to get over a fear of something that isn't hurting me or anyone else and that I don't particularly want to get over. I don't fly or plan on any trips to the Amazon to pet snakes.

A woman in our church wanted some help with painting her son's room once and I went over to help. As I was painting the inside of the closet she just haaaaaaapppppeneddddd to mention that her son's pet snake got loose and was lost. What kind of a homemaker lets the pet snake get loose I ask you?! You have never ever seen anyone drop a paintbrush so fast and exit a house as I did that day!!!! I panicked and left. Why in the world wouldn't that Ditz tell anyone before they came into her house????? Oh, they found him weeks later when someone was sitting in the family room on one of those banana chairs and the snake slowly exited. Can you imagine what that room would have looked like if I had been sitting on that banana chair?!?! To say nothing of the Ditz. I went into her house only once after that and when the son brought the snake out and said it wouldn't hurt anyone and would I want to pet it, I told hubs I'm outta her and we left posthaste. Eeeeuwwwww..... Ooooh, and it was NOT a garden snake, it was one of those that wrap themselves around you. A boa constrictor I believe he was. Heavy sigh...............

Random Thought:

In our old age women "leak", but men "splatter" from the time they're toilet trained.

Another Beautiful Valentine Swap

Friday, February 13, 2009

Happy Valentines Day to all of you!!

My ebay group did a valentine swap also. They have spoiled me for almost 3 years now with their love, humor and gorgeous crafts given to me. I cannot say enough about these women. I was partners with Shirl of Shirlsrosecottage this time. This woman does the most gorgeous silk ribbon embroidery. Shirl has been doing it a long time and does exquisite work.

But Shirl sent me my favorite kind of candy — coconut and almonds. It's almost all gone and I just got it a couple of hours ago. I'll TRY and leave some for Love Bunny but first come first eater is my motto!! :-)

But look at this beautiful little fleece embroidered roses hearts banner. It is fantastic in person, let me tell youuuuuuuuu!! I'm hanging it in a very special place also.

And Shirl does lovely cards also.

And this little valentine pillow with embellishments galore. I cannot tell you how much she has thrilled me today. I am truly blessed by these women. Truly!!!!!

Laundry Day and Embroidery

Saturday, December 27, 2008

My days aren't always like this one because it's laundry day and I have some errands to run today. It's a very mundane chore but I do get a lot of satisfaction seeing all the clothes in their drawers and closets when done. Such is the lot of the "housewife" and I say that with awe and respect to all of you housewives. For me it's a very rewarding "job." And Love Bunny tells me how much he appreciates what I do for him. :-)

Ooooh, yuck, I didn't realize we were that dirty!! :-(

And having a lovely laundry room definitely dispels the "not so glamorous" of chores!

I thought I'd also share some of my embroidered pillow cases with you today. Even when I was in my "feminist" days I enjoyed and loved doing embroidery. I'd do needlepoint, petit point, cross stitch and just regular ol' embroidery. My daughter has a love for it also and has done many pieces for herself and some for me. It's peaceful and satisfying. So I did many pillow cases.

These are done white-on-white for a more elegant look when I wanted just a "white" look to the bedroom. I cross-stitched our initial on to it. The thread is barely visible but it's the best I could do. Hah....

Here is one of the absolutely first pillow cases I embroidered. Pansies remind me of my grandmother and I did this as a tribute to her.

Roses are, of course, a favorite of mine. This is very old pillow case with some vintage lace from my grandmother so this is somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 year old lace and I'll never ever part with it. If it becomes too fragile and tattered I'll frame it or hang it on one of my shelves in my craft/sewing room or office room. It is absolutely stunning and just a tad off white.

A very simple little flower vine with a white daisy in the center and more vintage lace on the edge.

This is the pillow case on my pillow at the moment. Don't look too closely for my drool!! ;-) And yes, I use all my old things on a daily basis. They were not meant to be tucked away but to be used in my opinion. When each pillow case or the lace edging becomes too fragile, as I said, I'll put it to rest in a place of recognition and love to remind me of those who have gone before me and love me enough to give me such beautiful things. I was my maternal grandmother's favorite granddaughter, you know. ;-) I miss seeing her and her beautiful wrinkled face and gray hair. I hope my granddaughter and grandsons feel that way about me some day.

Surprise from the Mailman

Monday, August 25, 2008

I absolutely never ever expect something unless I've ordered something online and am always surprised and overwhelmed and humbled when I receive a present in the mail. If you don't believe me just ask hubs! We are not a "gotta buy a present for someone" family unless it is grandkids and once they reach a certain age, that's it. Just best wishes or a phone call to let them know we love them. I have all I could ever need and a pretty good percentage of all I would want. ;-) If it's pink and has roses then I want it usually. Hah. But anyway when I got the mail today a package was in the mail also. Not expecting anything that size in a Priority box (I am waiting for a new ethernet cable and keyboard from Apple, but they don't ship USPS usually.) so I was a bit surprised and perplexed as to who would be sending me something. I opened it up and immediately spotted this beautiful paper and knew I had to photograph it. Isn't it pretty? Then I unwrapped it and saw this adorable pillow from Vickie (she's in my ebay group and we just love her to pieces!) and just squeeeeealed with delight!!!! DIVA?!??! You betcha! A shocking fuchsia pillow with matching feather and DIVA on it! I AM a Diva!!!!

Wylde Woman award from Shannon at Paint Mine Pink. This chick is one of my favorites because of the "tea parties" she has with her son and the sweet things she does for him. Plus her cupcakes are adorable! ;-) She brightens my day far more than I brighten hers, trust me! I wish we lived on the same continent but it's hard to get her to move over here..........hmmmmmmmm, would a free meal for a month do it, chickee?!?!?! LOL The wildest thing I've done lately is take the hair off my legs with Nair! Ouuuuuuch........that reeeeeallly hurt! I think I'll shave them next time or just not wear my hot pants!! Hah......... ;-)
