Lemonade and Roses for 4th of July

Saturday, July 3, 2010

Happy 4th of July, my sweet blogger friends! I hope each and every one of you takes the time today to think about what our forefathers did and went through to give us this great country. Thank your military and veterans today also. They give up so much to protect us and our country.

No one understands the relationship between individual achievement, dignity and strength than our armed forces. Through every war our soldiers have held this nation's destiny in their hands. They have not failed us. They cherish freedom enough that they are willing to die for it. Our duty to them and to ourselves is to treasure freedom enough to live up to it. The desire for freedom is in every human heart. Thank you!!!!

I make a fresh pitcher of lemonade everyday. Yep, I sure do. I love it, but I love the fresh kind the best. I don't add sugar until it's poured into the glass. That way visitors or Love Bunny can sweeten it to their preference and with sugar or artificial sweetener. I use artificial sweetener because I don't want the extra calories. It tastes wonderful just fresh squeezed with the pulp floating around in it. Yuuuuummmmm...

And you thought I'd forget the eye candy, huh? As if those two hunks in the above photos weren't enough eye candy for you!! Purrrrrr... Nope, here are some roses I have in the house that are not real—don't know if some are silk but the first one is. I found this one only many years ago and have never found any more like it. Usually people think these are real.

This one feels like a real rose. I have no clue what it is made of but it's a very sturdy material, whatever it is. This has fooled many people with it realness. It is beautiful and I have several like it.

The rest are from my rose garden and were all taken on the same morning—wednesday the 16th of June. Aren't they beautiful? I even Photoshopped some for a blogger to use if she wants to use them for her designs.

The Rose Garden and Another Day In The Life Of...

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

The rose garden is in bloom now with hundreds of roses all of a sudden. It's gorgeous!

It was a cloudy afternoon so I clicked on the flash to get truly good colors and to test how they would turn out. I'm very pleased with the results.

This looks like it's on its last leg, but it isn't. The color is pink with a yellow center. Just beautiful when viewed in person.

Just starting its bloom.

Another photo of this lovely rose and its center up closer.

This is after Love Bunny dead-headed the bush!

And a white rose also.

And one with a whisper of pink-tinged edges on it.

And since so many bloggers have emailed me asking to use some of my other roses photos, I'll let you use these without asking me but as a courtesy, if you do, please link back to me so as to share all of them with others. Thank you for your kindness and consideration.

And just guess what hubs is doing. At about 2:00 in the afternoon he set out what was for dinner that night! He's driving me nutty doing this. Sigh... I can whip this out about 2 minutes before I start to cook. I don't need to see it on my counter top all afternoon. Actually, this is the first time he tried that Tuna Helper. I had leftover spaghetti and he cooked this dish. It smelled up the house something awful. We had to spray freshener, open doors, turn on the fan over the stove, fan in the living room and wash the dishes before we could stand to breathe. That's the last time he gets that dish, trust me!

And can you believe when I went to the store to buy some more just regular plain old thumb tacks they didn't have any? All they had were these darling ones, but they're giant thumb tacks and I can use them, but really...no regular ones?!

Mother's Day Tea Party

Saturday, May 8, 2010

Welcome to the tea party hosted by Cielo at The House In The Roses. Visit her to see all the participants.

I've set the table for you and we can chat for awhile. Put your feet up and relax by my bay window.

As dusk settles in we can light a candle to set our intimate mood. Cake with strawberries is awaiting on the shelf in the background.

Only beautiful roses china for my best friends.

My petite teapot looks like the roses in my garden.

Would you care for these exquisite little sugar cubes in your tea?

Next time we'll have to have our tea in the garden.

Roses of Summer and Weeding

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

One saturday recently I decided to go out and tend my rose garden. I had bought some more hostas to plant under my office window because I love them so much. I think of them as elegance for my small garden.

Porch garden will be getting an update soon with weed fabric and some stones instead of bark. The desert wind blows them all over and when it rains they wash out. So we have a lawn care company coming soon to refurbish a few areas in front and some out back.

Under my office/computer room window. I planted the one in front that day and the green upright at the top of photo is a gift from a neighbor so it will remain. It's a very fragrant lily. The green shrubs will go.

I deadheaded today. I had 2 five gallon buckets of roses—all very beautiful and fragrant. I smelled every single bush I cut!

I think they make a beautiful photo. This garden is a mound in the middle of yard and will be refurbished also.

Another shot of my roses. Sob.......... I hate to cut them to throw away.

Front of office with the little window seat above the rock. Another hydrangea is peeking through the left top of the right hand shrub. And if you got that you're savvy! LOL

Okay, have I bored you to tears yet with this post of shrubs and flowers? I'm keeping that tall bush on the corner of the house because of its heights and lushness. It's not especially pretty but I need something there and it IS there.

I'm so proud of this photo I could just spit. I wanted a very close up picture of this rose. My camera is loved by me even more each time I use it and strive for "perfection"!

Same rose, farther shot.

More roses. The garden is certainly looking trashy now but you just wait. :-)

Pink petal path.

Other side of that small garden. I wish I knew someone getting married today; I'd donate the roses and petals to them to strew about the yard.

I may cry at the waste of all those gorgeous roses.

Yes, they are as gorgeous as they look and smell divine, chicks!

A perfect white rose in the garden.

Pink beauty sighing its last gasp. Pretty, even with the spots acknowledging its demise.

Another rose of a very soft pink and yellow saying its farewell in a couple of days.

This is my all-time favorite rose in the garden. Pink, of course.
Oooooh, if anyone wants to use these photos you certainly may use them for anything you might need, but I would appreciate a link back to my blog for it. It's fun and nice to share and I do this when I can also. I love finding new bloggers and appreciate each and everyone who visits me. Thank you.

Until next time. Au revoir.

Random Thought:

When trimming the roses this day hubby told me I wasn't doing it properly and should just cut the buds. He took over from there and will probably not allow me to do it again. Am I smart or what?!?! Hmmmm??? Truly? I didn't even think about it while I was doing it, but it worked out well for me, huh? :-)
