My Hunt for the Best New Chair

Sunday, June 9, 2013

Here's the story of my hunt for a new chair.

First of all, Juliette has 2 teeth now. This is great granddaughter #2.

This is one of the fabrics I was thinking about putting on the Lucien chair I wanted. When I showed it to my friend, she said, "It looks like you." I said, "Does that mean I'm cute?" :-) She said, "Yes."    :-)

This one was a serious consideration after seeing it done up in a darling bedroom at Ethan Allen in Boise.

While I loved this red fabric, it wasn't even close to the same red in my other chair so it wouldn't work.

My final choice. It's a bit French-looking also, which was a plus. I like a little bit of the French look in my home. The fabric is ideal also. It's almost burlap feel and look, but very substantial with a grade of "heavy duty" so it'll stand up to grandkids and great grandkids.

When I saw this ad in the a local high-end store in Boise, I almost cried. It's pretty much like the sofa I was considering at Ethan Allen, but went with another one instead. This one is priced at less than half the other sofa though.

That would NOT have been the color I would have chosen though. I am not into browns in any way.

Then I found other sofas while looking for a chair. Isn't this one darling? Reminds me of Pierre Deux fabrics and style.

I loved the style of this sofa and the whole room actually, but then I do love "Traditional" decor.

This one looks comfy also. We have so many choices that it's hard to select just one.

There isn't just any one thing I like about this room but put together, I love it. I think it's absolutely stunning.

This isn't an Ethan Allen chair but I would have chosen this fabric in a heartbeat; however, I have no clue where to find this fabric.

This one is gorgeous also but I like a cushion seat.

This sofa is so much like mine it's uncanny. Now, I can look at this and see how 2 of my current sofa, now in the family room, would have looked if I could get 2 sofas in my living room. I can't. It's just not big enough.

This would have been one I'd have seriously considered if it was available to me. But I love fringe on a sofa and I love that pink with the yellow walls. My sofa leans toward the yellows and my walls are pink. I love it though.

Trip to Ethan Allen to Look at Sofas.

Sunday, August 19, 2012

Feeling a bit chipper a few days ago, I asked hubby to take me to our local Ethan Allen shop. He did. When I first walked in their store, the most stunningly gorgeous sofa was sitting right in front. It was the Chadwick (seen below in photos 7, 8 and 9) in a beautiful fabric. It took my breath away. I've asked the designer to take a photo of that setting so I could show it to you.

This is my sofa now. It's 17 years old and I'm due for a new one. The pillows on it now aren't the regular pillows but since my surgery I've had them on because they're feathers and nice and soft for my head and feet to lay on. Corbett is its name but it's been discontinued years ago. This looks about like it did when new though. I take excellent care of my furnishings and have it treated with a stain repellent every five or so years. Clean and nice. Ready for my granddaughter's house when she finds one.

There are 5 sofas I'm looking at. I've narrowed it down to these sofas but I'm pretty sure it'll be the Marlowe one down a couple from here. I gave the designer my five favorites and told her to put the same fabric I looked at in the store on all five on their website where they can do it and send me the photos of each to compare. I doubt that this will be the final fabric. It actually shows darker here than when actually seen. I don't want something very dark. I'll make the final fabric selection next time we go in to the store. Here they are.
This is the Paris sofa.

Savoy sofa.
I liked this one also, but it's not going to be my final selection.

Marlowe.
This is my final selection. Longer than the old sofa, which was 92". This one is 99" and hubs wanted it bigger rather than smaller. You know men! ;-)

This is a tight back and it wasn't comfortable with my tight-muscled back. So it won't be my final selection either.
Montgomery sofa

Marlowe in another fabric. I want to see this fabric in person before I decided. Probably not what I'll select but I never know until I see the fabric in person and the colors in natural light. Very Pretty though.

This was the stunning sofa in the entry, but it was done in a fabric similar to the top three, but it was a gold/yellowish. It drew my breath away when I saw it. Stunningly gorgeous! It has nail trim and the back and arms are tufted with buttons. The back scrolls over a bit. That would make it stand out a bit far from our window behind it. But the greatest consideration is that it was stiffer than the cushioned sofas.
Chadwick sofa

Well, to my delight, the designer took this photo and emailed it to me after I'd completed this post. I didn't want to change the post so I just added these photos of it. This is the sofa in the entry of Ethan Allen the day I walked in.

I cannot tell you how beautiful it is in person. No photo ever does justice to the actual things we're photographing!

I also played around with the fabrics on the sofa I'm wanting—the Marlowe. This is pretty but I'm wanting something less floral. I'll know it when I find it.

This is a pretty paisley print on the sofa.

Also, I pulled up this one in pink stripe fabric just for fun. I'm not getting another pink stripe fabric for the living room. But I like it. I think it's darling, but not as formal as I want.

I love this small outdoor patio with the darling birdhouse. I have no clue where it is but it's beautiful, especially with all the patio lights running along the fence.

A quaint pathway between 2 houses in a small village. Perhaps in the UK somewhere.

If only all entrances could be this welcoming with petunias, it would be a much nicer place to visit.

Lovin' these refurbished shoes!

Wishing I could have something like this in our backyard.

A beautiful bedroom for your little princess. The bed is in that Cinderella coach. I'm wondering if this is a decorator's showcase house room.

I like the way this homeowner decorated her lamp and hamper with the same beautiful roses fabric. Sweet!

The mirror reflects the actual home and what a sweet way to decorate a fence.

Another tidbit from the blog post on U.S. Presidents I posted here.
Once while reprimanding his child for school grades, one Vice-President said, "What do you want to end up like—one of these?", while sweeping his arm to indicate the SS agents. So let's hear it for the SS agents! I think those guys are wonderful to protect a man for whom they had absolutely no respect. My brother-in-law is a retired FBI agent so I know what these people go through. They should be applauded for their heroism and non-judgmental attitude.

In Honor of Blues

Sunday, December 26, 2010

This post is dedicated to lovers of blue, but to one blogger especially who loves a certain shade of blue that is known as McCoy blue I believe—Claudia, a really neat lady who has a darling little cottage in New York state along with her hubby and dogs.

This is the color that made me think of her. Oh, it is probably not the same color of blue she loves, but it simply reminded me of her. Since Claudia is a voice coach with a theatrical background and the sofa has a theatrical bent to it—to me anyway, it reminds me of her even more. Theatrical style, theatrical fabric (velvet) and theatrical colors!

And this color also just reminded me of Claudia.

There are lots of different blues in these photos but I love this periwinkle color of blue the best.

Blue headboard and flowery blue linens for this lovely room.

A touch of blue in the desk and side table in this monochromatic room. Very soothing.

Would you have ever imagined these two colors together and looking so beautiful together? I absolutely love them. That in no way means I'll fall to their allure. :-) I'm still a PINK girl!

This photo scan has absolutely nothing to do with blue, but I like the serenity of it. It's probably a coastline on the east coast since I'm very familiar with the west coast shoreline and it doesn't look too much like ours out here.

Pink Saturday 12/11/2010

Friday, December 10, 2010

First of all, I want to update you on our son's condition because some of you have kind enough to ask. Most of you newbies to my blog will not know what I'm talking about so if you'd like you can go here Keith's Trial and see what he went through last year.

He is still having vertigo from the gang beating along with migraines. About a week ago he had to go to the emergency room. He was in such bad shape they gave him 3 liters of water for hydration. He hadn't eaten for 2 days because while trying to put in a new sink in his kitchen and going under and above for that length of time the vertigo and migraine was intense.

But the sad part is that the trial for 2 of the men resulted in a hung jury. We cannot believe how it could have ended like that when the video from the convenience store was so readily available and showed the beating. I asked him how he felt about seeing it for the first time as the police wouldn't let him see it before the trial. He said it just happened so fast he couldn't believe it. So he'll have to go through another trial for these gang members. We're very sad to say the least. Such is the justice system that the perpetrators have it so easy.

I have a sweet friend, Lorena, who has a gorgeous blue formal
dining room very similar to this one. Though I do love blue, she loves the color much more than I do. I think this and hers are gorgeous though.

While this isn't especially the shabby chic romantic style, it is still froufrou-y and feminine. And I like it.

Here's that Chesterfield sofa I love so much, but in a plain white fabric but with nail headtrim. While it is the same sofa, with a different fabric and different pillows it doesn't look formal; it looks more Americana.

I love these chairs also. When I get ready to buy, it will be from Ethan Allen, but I may have a hard time deciding on these and another style I like.

The harlequin pattern draws me every time. I don't know why but I just love it mixed in with the romantic style. The diamond is reflected in the coffee table, the points on the window coverings and the decorative boxes on the lamp table.

Another romantic bedroom I knew you'd love to see. I have a chandelier that I'm having a friend paint in exchange for lifetime use of my Cricut machine. I think it's a fair trade since she's a talented perfectionist. I have this "thing" for chandeliers. ;-)

Even an old basket full of spotted just-picked apples can make a fashion statement. Plus red rooms are lovely and very inviting.

French country is especially loved among you bloggers. I also love French and English styles, but I think Americans have as much style, while lacking in the antiques available to the French and English though. Just beautiful.

I have no doubt this room will appeal to some of you. To me, it looks like homes we would find in the south. Just from books on southern style and looking at the blogs, the southern part of the U.S. tends much more toward formality as does the northeast, while out west here we tend more toward relaxing style.

Different view of the same room. It's very symmetrical and I love symmetrical rooms. Asymmetrical rooms throw me off balance. They are rarely a favorite of mine although I've seen some I like.
