Our Heritage Is Important To Our Progeny

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

I'm going to remind you again of my Pinterest page where I have almost 14,000 photos of nothing but eye candy. If almost 11,000 followers find them interesting and beautiful, I'm sure you'll like to at least view them. I promise you won't be disappointed. Nothing BUT eye candy. A feast for the eyes!

There are times when I need "comfort" food. Hubby always knows because I look at him with puppy dog eyes, put my curled hands up to my chin and whine like a puppy. He knows what that means. He's a sucker for it and will run to the store for whatever I need: Blue Bunny Bunny Tracks ice cream, cinnamon rolls, Häagen Dazs butter pecan or some kind of vanilla with caramel, cake or Drumsticks ice cream cones or even Werthers caramels. It depends on how I feel as to what I want. Since I've had this terrific cough for a week, it's been especially bad. I don't feel sick, don't hurt or ache, just coughing my head off. It started when we got an inversion in our city and the cold air just made me cough when I went out in it. Know what I mean? I'm sick of it. So I sent him grocery shopping a few minutes ago and put a few "comfort" foods on the list. ;-)

My great grandgirls, C & J, have become interested in our heritage, which is important in our church, and the oldest one who is almost 4 years old is asking about her great great grandmothers and great great great great grandmother also. I've sent my granddaughter the information but they also want stories. Stories are a big part of their lives as their Dada and Mummy read to them a lot, every night at least. So granddaughter wants me to send stories to them so they'll be acquainted with MY history. It's been a chore but I have to do it since I'm in my 70s and don't have a whole lot of time left and certainly want those little munchkins to have some memories of me. I'm also including some photos with each story so they'll know what I was like as a kid. I think it's a good idea.

While we were over there in February we saw this painting done by the one who is almost 4. I was stunned that she could actually paint a dog. You DO realize it's a dog, right? I can't even draw a stick dog!! Her father and uncle are artists though so she's inheriting it from the other side of the family. Her dada can draw just about anything. I truly have never seen so much talent in a man—computer scientist, artist, handyman extraordinaire and a story teller with a fantastic imagination.

I don't know if this photo has been photoshopped but it doesn't look real to me—beautiful!—but not real.

There's always a bit of French and a bit of English in my home, 2 groups of my ancestry besides Dutch and Mexican.

Isn't this wisteria just beautiful? Goes perfect with the shutters on this shop.

How fortunate for this homeowner to have so much light in her kitchen. But if she lives in a warm climate it must get pretty warm in there in the summer season...if she lives in the northern hemisphere, but if it's in Australia or New Zealand then it would be the winter season that's warm. I knew a guy from Australia once and he was shocked upon his first day in the U.S. because our toilet flush water swirls in the opposite direction. He thought the toilet was getting stopped up.

Just yum!!!!!!! Hubby made me a chocolate cake last night as I'm having a terrible time with a cough. Not sick, feverish, just coughing. So is he. But I wanted comfort food and that's what he baked. Wonderful hubby. ;-)

A room I love and think is very cozy.

I like this sofa but I'd probably never buy one like it. A bit too busy for my taste.

But I do love this distinctive dining room. Great for entertaining and it's made to stand out in this home. Marvelous!

Oooooh, yeah!! I could live in this home in a heart beat. Only I'd have to have someone else clean it.

A cute English cottage with pretty windows, curtains and flowers with a lush green lawn.

Another darling living room.

I love this room and the way it's arranged but that painting on the back wall would HAVE to go. I mean GOOOOOO!!! Maybe it's their kids' school/fantasy project. ;-)

Another cute pillow.

There's always room for apple pie with ice cream. I think they put a dollop of cream on this. Let's not cut corners here, just slather it with premium vanilla ice cream!!!!

And a home in Greece. They seem to love blue and pink with white the main color. Beautiful!

Caramel Apples and Fake Nails

Monday, September 24, 2012

Hubs and I went to the store the other day and on a whim I bought some caramel dip. I was amazed how many apples I ate that day! Do you know how many apples it takes to consume the entire container of caramel dip? So far I've eaten 4 apples and still have some left. Maybe 5 or 6 apples? Hmmmm.

Getting my hair cut recently, I noticed a couple of women coming in for fake nails. There is no way possible those women do work of any kind! I have to file my nails at least once a week to be able to type/keyboard on this computer. Those women had them about 1-1/2 long. And that reminded me of an incident 30 years ago.

Back in the early 1980s, I had them put on for a USMC ball in November of that year. They looked gorgeous. But that night as I was trying to get my contacts out of my eyes I couldn't get my fingers into my eyes. I was in tears wondering how to get them out so I could get to bed that night. (I don't wear contacts anymore at all.) Hubs was absolutely no help because he's got men's fingers and they were too big. (He has gorgeous long beautiful fingers though.) So I had to cut them off that night. I only had them on one day. At the time it was $25 or $30 and that was a lot in 1980 dollars. Then, if  you try to pick your nose, you almost rip your eyeballs out! Never again. These hands work, chick, WORK!

I thought this was a lovely house set out on a bit of acreage you might enjoy seeing. I love the blue metal roof. I wanted one several years ago, but since our roof required over 4,000 s.f., the cost was prohibitive. We settled for shingles.

You will forever see roses on this blog. Forever!!!!

Another sweet respite on a porch.

This is what I've been doing a lot of lately—using pins on making ribbon roses and a ruffled tablecloth.

A very simple, yet lovely, vignette. Why don't you try it?

A lovely picnic or they could be camping. (Shudderrrrr!)

Lovely linens and bottles in purple and lavender.

Now, it looks like the curtains are billowing in a breeze but, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how such a window could be opened. But what a view to wake up to each morning.

I just loved the illumination on this photo from the lights in the house, on the porch and fire in the pit.

Talk about quaint, vintage and rustic, this is it.

A cute radio and a space by the ocean.

Love this tiny space for a crafter.

Darling coin purse. Looks like a crafter made it.

A street in Europe somewhere. Can't see the writing on the canopy well enough to tell if it's in France or Italy though.

And I leave you today with this absolutely stunning roses cake. ;-)

Your Body Talks to You; Listen to It!

Monday, July 9, 2012

I've updated my tutorial on the new blogger interface here. This one is about blogger wanting you to upgrade for more storage space and telling you that some photos and/or posts will be deleted because you're using too much space. You really need to read this tutorial. Go to the bottom of the tutorial for a bit of advice on what other options you have.

Okay, let's talk doctors here.

For the last couple of months, I've had a problem. (No need to know the exact problem, just that it's a health issue.) I take an assertive—and I mean assertive, not aggressive since assertive sounds so much nicer, but then again I can get aggressive in my health care. :-)

Anyway, for 2+ months there has been this problem. I've talked to several doctor's offices trying to get someone to listen. To no avail. Plus it's summer and vacations with kids, so that factors into the equation. I couldn't get in to see anyone, not the surgeons I usually deal with and several others I've been trying to get an appointment with also. No one would/could schedule me for at least 3 to 4 weeks out. I was in pain. I don't think they understood the urgency of it or the pain I was feeling. When I tell you something, you'd better listen because I'm pretty accurate in what my body is feeling. Finally, I got in with my GP because of a cancellation and she told me the problem. Not anything I was expecting or even knew about. Serious and painful to say the least. I had some pain killers left over from my foot surgery over a year ago but I didn't want to take pain killers. Finally, my hubs said, 'Take them. They're there and you're in pain.' So I have been taking them. I don't like doing it but it's how I can get through some days now. I'll be seeing a doctor, whose specialty this is, next week. I just hope he listens and understands that while I don't have a medical degree, I definitely know this body better than he does. What I'm telling you is don't let the doctors tell you it couldn't be that serious. Listen to your own body and demand—as much as you can demand—they take you seriously. It's your body and it talks to you. Be assertive and don't think doctors are gods. I don't and I'm glad I don't. BTW, I love my doctor! She's fantastic.

Oh, and to update you on the new toilet—it's working wonderfully. I love it. If you're a new reader to this blog, you might want to read about the toilet here. It's humorous. ;-)

Pretty pink doors.

This is a cake. Can you believe it? Astonishing.

A cottage I thought you’d like seeing.

Quaint stone wall and window in a cottage.

These three strong colors just grabbed me when I saw them: aqua, fuchsia and pink. That color of pink on the door is one I’d consider for my front door when we repaint it.

Sweet garden and patio to while away an afternoon. I’m wondering how they got those arched windows to stand up.

Roses in a cute bucket.

Cute table setting for a girl’s luncheon.

This has to be a shop of some kind. Just too cute to be in a home all by itself.

Yes, these are lamps—hanging lamps. I think they are exquisite. The one on the left looks like a jellyfish. These would be so easy to make if you had the right hanging lamp to start with and fabric and ribbon.

These are also lamps. Beautiful.

I think this one is just gorgeous. It would make your room look golden when it was turned on.

A lush garden area to dream in or dream about.

I don’t think this is a cottage someone lives in since it looks so small, but it is a cute building I wanted to show you. Then again, maybe it is someone’s home.

Pretty eye-catching area in a home.

Could be a table setting for your next party. ;-)

I’ve seen these small trailers in a magazine lately while visiting my doctor’s office. They’re very small but catching on for people who travel to hike. I think you can only sleep in it. Sounds like a lot of money just to sleep in.

Cute way to display roses, whether real or faux.

Cakes, Gummy Bears and Romantic Rooms

Monday, March 19, 2012

I promised more cakes for you to drool over and here they are, but first a story. Of course!

I was visiting with a younger woman friend recently and we got to talking about taking care of ourselves physically. She always has a huge container of water with her, and I usually sit here with a bottle of water and try to remember to drink it.

Anyway, I told her my doctor recommended prenatal vitamins and more calcium as my nails are just splitting badly at the tips. I told my friend I'm taking Gummy Bear Prenatal vitamins. Prenatal vitamins at my age? Yep. So now I'm taking a GB vitamin, GB fiber (as is my friend) and Calcium caramels. I feel like I'm on a sugar high in the morning! Who would have thought we could just eat candy for our daily requirements of all this?

Then yesterday I went for a massage. My regular masseuse is taking a leave of absence for a while and I had another woman give me the massage. She mentioned that my shoulders are coming forward a bit from spending so much time on the computer and then gave me some "doorway" exercises to strengthen my arms, pectorals, neck and back. I really needed those. I sit on this computer way too much but it has to be done. I shall be diligent about exercising though.

And how do I say 'Welcome to Family Search' with a mouthful of candy?

This is a blueberry rainbow cake. You could probably do the same thing with strawberries and red food coloring.

A room for a princess. I've always found it strange that people put beds up against the wall. How do they make them without moving the bed? I'm too lazy to drag a bed around to change the sheets.

This one reminds me of Audrey Hepburn, one of the most gorgeous and elegant ladies in the history of the world. I understand her personality was beautiful also.

A room Miss Hepburn might have liked to live in.

This one reminds me of New Mexico and its state gem—turquoise.

Romantic bedroom.

These are actually sugar ice cream cones with sugar crystals on them. You could use them on a dessert and they would be edible also.

More eye candy for you. ;-)

Fanciful ribbons under a dome.

Can we say "cute"?

I have a pink clock like this blue one.

Beautiful bowls.

Yes, this is a cake; can you believe it?!

A lovely vignette in a lovely bedroom. Yes, you can lust after the mirrors if you must.

Sighing again...

I think this makes a wonderful garden room or sun room.

To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.
