Let Boys Be Men

Saturday, February 11, 2012

I am so sorry to have to do this but I'm initiating the captcha word verification for a while since I've been receiving a lot of spam advertising lately. They give up after a couple of weeks so it is temporary. I've opted to take an assertive stance instead of constantly deleting spam comments. I hate spam!

I was reading a post the other day about little boys being little boys. I agree with the blogger, who has 2 little boys and 2 little girls. As she laments, we tell them to be quiet, don't track dirt in, don't play in the mud, don't chase your sisters, don't run, don't fight, don't shout, sit still, etc. Sit still? Puhleeeeze! That's what little boys do—wiggle endlessly. Fight dragons with sticks wrapped in duct tape and consider themselves lucky if they can get the colored duct tape. Poke their sisters and other boys. They let their imagination run wild while they drive their mummies nuts! Where are all the cowboys? There is a movement on to feminize them. I am not an adherent to that movement. I want the most masculine man I can find to protect me. I am married to a retired Marine. My son is a former Marine. What can I say? I'm a Marine's wife and mother. As George Orwell said:

People sleep peaceably in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence in their behalf.

When my son was about 7 or 8 years old, we lived in 29 Palms, Ca. Now, let me tell you, that is isolated desert. He would go out into the desert in the morning and stay just about all day catching lizards and chuckwallas to bring home. He'd put them in a box and save them as pets in the garage, which wasn't attached to the house as it was military housing and we were lucky to have a garage at all. He loved having them.

One particular day he went out in the morning to check on them and they had escaped. (I thanked the Lord that day for detached garages!) He was sad, but he went back out again hunting for more pets.

It's coming up on the 2nd anniversary of our son's encounter with a gang of 4 down in Southern California, who beat him mercilessly for defending a woman at a Chevron Mini Mart. Read about it here. He has since been licensed to carry a concealed weapon because of that incident. Also, he has since bought weapons for his wife and oldest son, 22 years old, to be able to defend themselves should they be attacked. He takes them to firearms classes and target shooting to be prepared and to know how to handle weapons safely. He never wants to go through again what he went through. He still suffers side effects from that beating. And he is the gentlest soul I've ever known, but he is a man in the truest sense and a worthy member of our Church.

I want men to be men and protect, defend, be courageous and strong and be Godly examples to others. Let them alone to be boys!

We have more beautiful photos for you to peruse today.

Charming barn wood used for this updated kitchen.

Walk with a loved one down this path.

I know this is a fall photo tucked in among spring and summer ones but it was so breathtaking I couldn't resist showing it to you.

Romantic settings will always excite me.

I shall live like a queen even if I'm not an official one.

I shall read until my eyes fail me and then I'll listen to tapes of my favorite books.

Romance will live in my head no matter what.

I shall coddle myself and let no one deter me.

I shall always and always love white.

Come look with me at the photos; the best is yet to be. ;-)
